WHO WE ARE

Project Sankofa is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the educational experiences of Black students and educators in racially isolated communities.

We focus on resource development, program design and implementation, and research related to their unique challenges.

Specifically, our work centers on the lived experiences of Black students in secondary schools where they comprise less than 5% of the student population.

OUR GOAL

The African American Scholars Project (AASP) is the cornerstone of Project Sankofa. This award-winning, school-based educational program is designed to address identity development, emotional wellness, and college preparedness for students from the African diaspora in suburban communities.

We aim to dismantle educational disparities by creating a supportive ecosystem through our initiatives. Our Next Black Educator Workforce program is a key component of this effort, providing a pipeline of qualified Black educators to these schools.

We believe that increasing the presence of Black educators in these environments will foster a sense of support, liberation, and academic success for Black students, while simultaneously empowering future generations of Black educators.
